The Hajar Project Welcomes Visitors From the Department of Earth Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University.

During our field season in the Spring of 2013, we were delighted to receive a visit from Professor Hesham El Kaliouby, Department of Earth Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University and his geophysics students. The group spent a day with The Hajar Project team on the Bisya Area Site, participating in the Ground Penetrating Radar trials on the Sallut plain and helping to trace the downstream course of Falaj 1 (the main falaj of the earlier Hajar Oasis Town).

Under the supervision of Dr Adam Booth, a group of geophysics students from the Dept. of Earth Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, are employing a Sensors&Software PulseEKKO PRO GPR system to search for ancient aflaj on the Sallut plain, Bisya Area Site.
Under the direction of archaeologist Lukasz Grzywacz, students from the Dept. of Earth Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, lay out a trial trench to continue tracing the downstream channel of Falaj 1 within the confines of the early Hajar Oasis Town.

Later in the year, geophysicist Adam Booth presented a paper on his work with The Hajar Project at the Second International Conference on Engineering Geophysics (ICEG), which was held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, on the 24-27 November, 2013.  A version of Adam's presentation - which was very well received by an audience of geophysicists, industrialists and archaeologists - can be viewed here.
